Praise for the Hurt Locker
61I Hate to Say I Told You So
Back in August I wrote a review of “The Hurt Locker”. I explained why I was so impressed with this movie. I said I was initially attracted to the movie because I have stepson and a nephew who are in the Army and they both have had tours in Iraq. I won't go through my entire review again. You can see the review on Associated Content
I do think the performance by Jeremy Renner deserves a second mention. Jeremy Renner came straight from his work in the TV show “The Unusuals,” and he did a fantastic job as a soldier with a cavalier attitude about defusing bombs.
I made this prediction in my review, “Watching this movie will give anyone a renewed appreciation for the American soldier. I will be seriously disappointed if “The Hurt Locker” does not receive several nominations from the Academy this year.”
I hate to gloat; well actually I love to gloat. While the movie didn't make big box office numbers it did hit home with the people who saw it and with critics around the world. You have to have an impressive movie to pull up neck to neck with a phenomenon like “Avatar” and that's what this movie has done. It was right behind “Avatar” in the People's Choice Awards and it beat out “Avatar” to win the Director's Guild of America Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film. Now we have learned that it matched Avatar's nine nominations for Academy Awards.
Of course the big hype is around director Kathryn Bigelow being in competition with her ex-husband James Cameron, director of “Avatar”, for the big award. I wrote in my review of “Avatar” that it is a very special movie. I believe it is the Star Wars of this generation. I disagree with some critics that say the storyline was weak. I believe the movie had a strong story that sustained itself through the dazzling special effects. See my review of Avatar here on HubPages for more details.
“The Hurt Locker” is a gritting down to earth movie about the harsh reality that our men and women in uniform face in a war zone. I believe it has earned its right to stand shoulder to shoulder with a striking movie like Avatar, and the connection between Ms. Bigelow and Mr. Cameron makes this year in movies even more fun.
If you haven't seen “The Hurt Locker” go see it; it is a quality movie. I mentioned in my original review that I do expect to see this movie played on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day along side “Saving Private Ryan”, and I fully expect that prediction to also come true.

I agree, "Hurt Locker" may be the best 2009 movie. Too bad more people haven't seen it. Same for "Precious" which is also very well done but hard to watch.
After what I've read here, I intend to get Hurt Locker from Netflix and watch it. Thanks, Pete.
I must check this one out
I didn't even know what the Ex's were fighting about! (I am so behind times when it comes to entertainment news!)Thanks for clarifying and making me want to be your fan!
Thanks for the Review.
Haven't heard of the Hurt Locker yet. We're always behind in films in UK. I must see these 2 films. There's been so much Hype about Avatar.
Thanks for sharing.
I really need to see that movie as I did not even know who Hurt Locker was.

these two are clearly my favorite movies I've seen in a long time at the theatres. when I saw The Hurt Locker, I didn't realize she was Cameron's ex. Talent attracts talent? she's amazing. the movie certainly hits a nerve in any American watching the movie. I would love to see it go home with many of those nominations turned into awards, but it will be tough.
either way, they're both five star movies.
